Deploy the Cross-platform MS Office Add-in

Note:

This topic relates to the Cross-platform MS Office Add-in. For details on using the Office (Win) Add-in, see Office (Win) Add-in.

Unlike the Office (Win) Add-in, there is no physical installer for the Cross-platform MS Office Add-in. Instead, a Cognidox administrator, who also has access to an Office 365 admin account, needs to generate the Office 365 manifest file from the Cross-platform MS Office Add-in configuration page, upload it to Microsoft Office 365 as a new Integrated app, and grant access to the add-in to users in their organisation.

Detailed instructions for this are given on the plugin configuration page.

To access the instructions:

  1. Display the homepage and choose > Manage Cognidox.

The Manage Cognidox page is displayed.

  2. Display the Settings & Configuration tab.

  3. Click on the Plugins link.

The Installed Plugins page is displayed.

  4. Click the Cross-platform MS Office Add-in to display the plugin’s configuration options.

  5. Set Cross-platform MS Office Add-in Enabled to Yes.

  6. Click Set Configuration .

  7. Scroll to the bottom of the window and follow the instructions for Microsoft Office 365 Integration. The instructions include clickable images to help guide you through the process, and a button to Download the manifest .

Managing Cross-platform MS Office Add-in plugin templates

The Cross-platform MS Office Add-in plugin has default blank templates for Excel, PowerPoint and Word, which you can download. In addition, you can upload custom templates to replace the defaults.

  5. Scroll to the Manage Plugin Templates section and click Manage Templates .

This displays the Manage Cross-platform MS Office Add-in Templates page.

  6. You can now:

    • Download the existing default templates and make them available to Cognidox users.

    • Upload your own custom templates. These templates will be seen by all users of the Cross-platform MS Office Add-in when they create new empty documents using the Empty Document menu option.

Notes on default and custom templates

Bear the following points in mind when setting up templates:

  • If you create a custom template, it just overrides the default (or current custom) template.

  • You can’t remove a custom template, but you can download the default and upload over what’s been added.

  • In this case, templates are normal .xlsx, .docx, and .pptx files; they are not Office template files.
