Viewing document information

Note:

This topic relates to the Cross-platform MS Office Add-in. For details on using the Office (Win) Add-in, see Office (Win) Add-in.

The Info tab displays some of the metadata information for the Cognidox document you are currently editing using the Office Add-in on your local machine.

The Info tab displays the following information:

  • General: Author, Cognidox part number and title.

  • Security:

    • In the event you have read-only rights on a document then the ReadOnly setting in the Security section will be set to “True”. In the majority of cases it will be set to “False”.

    • If security settings on the document in Cognidox prevent you from opening the latest version of the document, you won't be able to open it using the Office (Win) Add-in (in the same way that you would not be able to open it using the Cognidox web application).

    • If the document you open has been checked-out by another user, the ReadOnly setting will be “True”. Once again, you won't be able to save as a draft or issue, in the same way that you would not be able to upload a new draft or issue using the web browser.

  • Versions

    • The document version that is approved, and the latest version.

    • The version you are editing.

The version you are editing, and the latest version will usually be the same. However, if you have opened a document for editing and left it open for (say) a day there is a chance that other users might have uploaded a newer version. In this case you will receive a warning that you are editing an older version. You will be asked to confirm if you really want to continue with uploading it into Cognidox.
